🛷 1972: The First Ride
Five friends from mid-Michigan loaded up their sleds and headed north to Cross Village. I-75 hadn’t even reached Grayling yet. That bold trip became an annual tradition.
🦌 The Name: Elk’s Nuts
Inspired by another group called “Moose Jaw,” the name “Elk’s Nuts” was born — a cheeky nod to camaraderie and local lore.
🔧 Evolution of the Event
From toolboxes and tow ropes to heated seats and remote start, the snowmobiles changed — and so did the ride. Poker runs turned into scavenger hunts, and the event became accessible to all, whether on sleds or in vehicles.
🍽️ Saturday Night Feast
The crew experimented with bean pots, town halls, and dinners at Leggs Inn. No matter the venue, the feast was always about connection.
👨👦 Generations of Riders
One year saw 53 participants, including three generations from some families. The ride became a rite of passage.
🎗️ The Shift to a Cause
Cancer touched nearly every member. Under Rob Parson Jr.’s leadership, the ride became a fundraiser for ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer.
💙 Why Prostate Cancer
It’s hit this group especially hard. The fundraiser honors those we’ve lost and supports those still fighting.
💰 How We Raise Funds
Voluntary donations, mileage pledges, and sponsor support have helped raise thousands of dollars over the years.
